On Your Marc by Marcus Hotels and Resorts

GOING INTO LABOR

A hot topic in the hospitality industry is the importance of labor, and much discussion has taken place at recent industry conferences about sourcing, developing and retaining associates in hotels across the country. Andrea Foster spoke about Marcus' efforts in this area during the Lodging Industry Investment Council roundtable in June, as shared in this article by Hotel News Now, specifically noting our increased focus on health and wellness initiatives, such as healthier dining options in our associate dining rooms (which we call "Family Rooms") and discounts on insurance premiums. Steve Martin, Marcus' VP of Human Resources, was also interviewed by Hotel News Now and shared our successful recruiting strategies for opening new hotels.

ALL IN THE FAMILY

One thing we know at Marcus is that we are "people pleasing people" and to do this effectively - day in and day out - we need our associates to be super troupers (as they sing in Mamma Mia!). Thus, we are committed to providing our associates with Family Rooms: areas where they can relax, reconnect with each other, and enjoy a nutritious meal all while rejuvenating their bodies and spirits. We have rolled these out in some of our properties already - in what were formally called "associate cafeterias" - and will be rolling them out in additional properties going forward.

HONEY HONEY

We have also created new breakfast standards that will be available for group events at several of our hotels - focused on current trends and healthful selections, integrating options that allow for personal preference which has a high value for those who are conscientious of what they are consuming. A couple of the new options are deconstructed offerings so guests can build-and-garnish to their own preferences and tastes, and superfood options for a healthy get-go to the day.

Did you know?

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the second movie in the Mamma Mia! series and has its roots in hospitality, as it is set at the mother- (Donna, played by Meryl Streep) and-daughter (Sophie, played my Amanda Seyfried) duo's bed & breakfast in Skopelos, Greece. The movie was written around songs by the 1970s era band, ABBA.
